Lynda

On 18th June the House welcomed Lynda Lounas, an Algerian translator who will be part of our community until 29th June. Lynda applied for a grant to translate Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi's Futuhat Al-Makkiyya (The Meccan Revelations to give it its English title) into Spanish.

The Translator's House wishes Lynda all the best with her translation which is a very important piece of work.

The Booksmovie

On 24th November Roberto Rodes, director, and María Luisa López, head of communications at The Booksmovie, visited the House to record some pieces of poetry read by Taha Ziada, Márta Patak and Enrique Alda. Taha Ziada read poems in Arabic by Mohab Nasr, and by Antonio Machado that he had translated into Arabic, as well as one of his own poems; Márta Patak read some of her translations into Hungarian of poems by Ana Rossetti; and Enrique Alda read his translations into Spanish of poems by KrisztinaToth and Mary O’Malley.

25th Anniversary of the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas

On 26th May the Casa del Traductor was invited by the Tarazona Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (Official School of Languages) to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The event was held in the spectacular cloisters of Tarazona cathedral. A big audience turned out to enjoy the evening's programme, which was somewhat different.

The author-translator relationship in literary works

The first in a series of talks on the relationship between translators and the authors they translate was held on 17th November at the School of Humanities, Universidad de Zaragoza. Talks were also held at the La Pantera Rossa bookshop in Zaragoza, the School of Modern Languages at the Universidad de Zaragoza, and the School of Translation and Interpreting on the Duques de Soria University Campus.

Timothy O’Grady and Enrique Alda led the discussions, which were aimed at translation students, but were well attended also by university lecturers and members of the general public with an interest in the subject.

The Translator’s House wants to thank all the institutions involved, as well as Timothy O’Grady for sharing his experience of the translation of I Could Read the Sky (called Sabía leer el cielo in Spanish) and Jaime Lapeña for his musical accompaniment.
